Walmart, the major private employer in the country, announced on Tuesday that it would pay for the college tuition and books at a set of schools for all of its part-time and full-time associates.The company has issued a news release stating that this big step means about 1.5 million Walmart and Sam’s Club employees can earn the degrees of college or can learn trade skills without a load of their education debt.
Lorraine Stomski, Senior Vice President of Learning and Leadership at Walmart, said in a statement that they are creating a path of opportunity for the associates to grow their careers at Walmart so that they can continue to build up better lives for themselves as well as for their families.
The company also announced that it will cancel its $1 daily fee for the employees to participate in its Live Better U program, which has offered access to the programs to earn a degree or other training from different fields.The program consists of 10 academic partners for Walmart and Sam’s Club employees, including Johnson & Wales University, the University of Arizona, the University of Denver, and many more. The participants in the program must continue to be part-time or full-time employees at either of the companies.
