Nestle issued the alert for 14 tons of frozen DiGiorno Crispy Pan Crust pepperoni pizza. The company issued this recall following reports that it contained undeclared soy protein, a known allergen. The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said that FSIS is concerned that some products may be in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them.
The mislabelling mishap first came to light after a customer informed the Swiss snack giant that boxes labelled pepperoni pizza contained three meat pizzas. That packed pizza harbours allergenic textured soy protein. These mislabelled products were shipped to retail locations and distribution centres nationwide.
The recalled products were produced on June 30. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions linked to the recalled products, the department said. Those who purchased the recalled products are urged to throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.
