McDonald’s Unveils Shamrock Shake Release Date and Secret Ingredient

McDonald’s announced Wednesday that it will bring back its popular mint-flavored shake to participating restaurants nationwide for a limited time starting Feb. 21. It will be joined by the Oreo Shamrock McFlurry, which first debuted in February 2020 in honor of the shake’s 50th anniversary.

The only thing more refreshing than the delicious taste of a Shamrock Shake is its unmistakable minty-green hue. This year, for the first time, we’re letting our fans in on the ‘secret ingredient’ that makes this dessert so iconic… #cbf2ac, the hex code for the official Color of Shamrock SZN.

The Shamrock Shake – created in 1967 by Hal Rosen, a Connecticut McDonald’s owner and operator, who made the seasonal dessert for St. Patrick’s Day – debuted in select locations across the nation in 1970. It went nationwide for the first time in 2012, according to fun facts about the shake.

The light green drink is made with vanilla soft-serve ice cream, artificially flavored Shamrock Shake syrup and whipped topping.  McDonald’s describes the Oreo Shamrock McFlurry as a “twist” on the Shamrock Shake with Oreo cookie pieces blended throughout
