After debuting the technology in the Apple iPhone for the first time later this year, it could offer its ProMotion display technology, which allows for a faster 120Hz refresh rate across all models of the 2022 iPhone lineup. According to reports, Apple is expected to incorporate a 120Hz refresh rate in this year’s iPhone 13 lineup, but only on the high-end iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
ProMotion technology is not likely to be included in the lower-end iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini. This is because Apple has chosen two different display vendors for the iPhone 13 series. Apple will use Samsung panels for the LTPO displays for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, which allegedly began production in May. On the other hand, Apple will rely on LG for the lower-end iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini, which will utilize LTPS panels.
According to the source, LG will modify its production lines to supply Apple with panels capable of a 120Hz refresh rate. LG presently only produces LTPS displays for Apple’s low-end iPhones. If this is accurate, both Samsung and LG, Apple’s key display suppliers, will be able to create LTPO OLED screens, potentially allowing Apple to add ProMotion technology across the whole Apple iPhone 14 lineup. While this is merely speculation, there are grounds to suspect Apple will take this path. Apart from screen sizes and coatings, the high-end and low-end iPhones currently share the same basic iPhone design.
